I think this book is a beautiful piece of Victoria Holt's! It's so romantic, and I think everyone should read it who's a hopeless romantic like I am. All the stages are discussed candidly, from early experimentation to full-blown blackouts, the shakes, detox, etc. Victoria Holt truly lived up to her reputation as the queen of romantic suspense. The whole ghost, necromancer, who-done-it was top notch. But even with the demands of family and social obligations, she says she has more time on hands since it is more common to have household help than in the States.
